Hi there! My name is Shyalina.


I am a Tamayyuz (excellence) Research Fellow at NYU Abu Dhabi. My main research interests include the relationship between inclusive music pedagogy and Social Emotional Learning (SEL). In my work, I draw from post-colonial theory, critical pedagogy, and Dis/Ability studies, and was recently awarded the Thomas Clarkson Silver Medal (Regional Award) at the Global Undergraduate Awards 2024 for my undergraduate thesis titled Crafting Musical Encounters. I am passionate about arts education research, and is am advocate for the inclusion of arts education in early childhood education.

Aside from my research, I am also a sound designer, musician and live music fanatic. I have worked on a number of short films, documentaries and audio projects and I enjoy exploring the power of storytelling through sound.
